The medieval kingdom of Pruzzina is in peril. After her stepbrother King Holger is assassinated, only Princess Christiana, the last legitimate heir to the throne, can protect her people from tyranny and civil war. The race is on to reach her kingdom in time to take the throne.
As a young teenager, Christiana realized that escaping her fate of a political marriage meant leaving her father’s court behind. For many years, Princess Christiana has lived in a secluded convent in another country where she now works as a healer and a scholar.
Pruzzina’s incompetent King Holger has squandered the treasury and the scheming dukes are too busy squabbling amongst themselves to object. The ruthless Duke de Bourboix sees his opportunity to usurp the throne. After he has the king killed, he blackmails the nobles to secure his election to be the new king of Pruzzina. Only the legitimate heir can prevent his coronation now, so he dispatches assassins to ensure Princess Christiana never reaches her kingdom alive.
If Bourboix is crowned, the kingdom will suffer under his tyrannical rule. However, if he dies, the nobles will start a civil war to secure the succession. Only the legitimate heir can unite the nobles and lead the kingdom out of bankruptcy to peace and prosperity.
The Grand Marshal of the Pruzzinian armies, Reinhardt, is the only man alive who knows how to find Princess Christiana. Reinhardt and a company of elite royal guards set out to locate her. As a family friend, he has to convince her to leave the safety of the convent and take up her father’s throne to save her people. They have to travel via a dangerous road where assassins are sure to wait for her, and reach the capital in time to stop the coronation of the traitorous duke.
